Why did Karl choose Cuba for his next Chanel show?
October 28th, 2015
On the occasion of Chanel latest Parisian show – yes, the one set inside an airport – Karl Lagerfeld had cunningly hinted his desire for the next season: "I would love to do a show in Cuba" the designer said.
No sooner said than done: the Resort 2017 show of the House will be held in Havana, Cuba, next May. After Seoul, Salzburg, Singapore, Saint Tropez, Dallas and Dubai, fashion people will be soon travelling to the more controversial Caribbean island of the planet. If the choice may seem revolutionary for a brand like Chanel, you’ll be surprised knowing that Cuba has always been among the strongest inspirations for the designer, thanks to its rich culture and its recent opening to the rest of the world.
Lagerfeld is not the first one who has been inspired by the island for his collections: recently its atmosphere have come to life in the collections of designers like Stella McCartney, Proenza Schouler and Hussein Chalayan.
We’ll just have to find out how this inspiration will be displayed on Chanel’s catwalk.
