Jane Birkin wants her Hermès bag to be renamed
July 29th, 2015
Jane Birkin is a timeless style icon. Hermès knows it, and dedicated to the British actress one of its best-selling models: the Birkin, exactly.
After 30 years of fruitful partnership, this historic collaboration may be coming to an end: after having watched a video diffused by PETA which showed mistreated crocodiles inside a farm in Texas, Birkin has asked the brand to stop the association between her and the bags produced with the skin of those animals: "Having been alerted to the cruel practices endured by crocodiles during their slaughter for the production of Hermès bags carrying my name... I have asked Hermès Group to rename the Birkin until better practices responding to international norms can be implemented for the production of this bag" claimed the actress.
For its part, Hermès answered: "Jane Birkin’s comments do not in any way influence the friendship and confidence that we have shared for many years. Hermès respects and shares her emotions and was also shocked by the images recently broadcast".
We hope the video was only the result of a mistake, because the Birkin is one of the bedrocks of fashion - like Chanel N°5 fragrance, just to be clear - and we don’t want to get rid of it.
