Alexander Wang is officially departing Balenciaga

It’s official: Kering hasn’t renewed Alexander Wang’s contract as creative director of Balenciaga. The American designer will present his last collection during Paris women’s fashion week in September and will leave right after.

Kering is currently searching for a successor, admitting they are considering choosing a lesser-known, hidden talent like it happened at Gucci with the lucky appointment of Alessandro Michele earlier this year.

Wang will not remain out of work: his eponymous label is going strong and it’s set to open new flagship stores in 2016.
