"Dior and I", a documentary by Frederic Tcheng, who directed also "Valentino: The Last Emperor" (2008) and "Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has To Travel" (2011), takes us behind the phases of the development of the first haute couture collection by the Belgian designer, fro the nomination to the triumphant debut.
When Simons comes to the maison has a menswear line, the reputation of "minimalist" and no experience in high fashion.
To create his first collection for Dior, has only eight weeks, enormous pressure and two prestigious, but cumbersome to manage legacy: that of John Galliano, just fired by the scandal caused by some anti-Semitic remarks and, above all, that of Mr. Christian Dior with its collection "New Look" has revolutionized fashion history.
"Dior and I" follows Raf Simons, while exploring the archives, visit to the studio for the first time, develop ideas, is moved, compared with employees.
They are their own, all the people who work every day to create a dream that lasts the space of a heartbeat, the other protagonists of the documentary, particularly the seamstresses, led by Florence Chehet and Monique Bailly, defined by Pieter Mulier, Simons right hand, "the two most important people in the house, because they have everything in their hands."
Tcheng, with empathy and humanity, creates a portrait of daily life that is hidden behind a fashion collection.
