Martine Rose SS14 Collection
boundaries between menswear and womenswear
April 22nd, 2014
A model with a blonde wig, in an environment created ad hoc shows that the spaces we inhabit are an extension of our own individual style. It 's a unsettling, strange, somewhat kitsch, lookbook which accompanies one of the last works of Martine Rose. The British designer explores the boundary between male and female, through its spring-summer collection. Play around fashionistas stereotypes dictating who belong to one gender or the other, developing a personal definition of masculinity.
Inspired by the figure of the English musician and producer Rick James, Martine introduces lace, ruffles and frills, classically feminine details, which, along with leather inserts and wide-legged pants, add an unusual touch in bombers, shirts, sweatshirts and shorts. The young designer starts with a sporty collection for men, full of 70s echoes, and, in search of a new frontier of menswear, produces a line full of perfectly unisex parts.
