The best 5 things about New York Fashion Week
Give me Five
February 17th, 2014
They say that in New York you have the impression that things happen faster than anywhere else, and hell, that's right. We talk about the busy, whirling and overwhelming city for excellence, the one that never sleeps, the one that constantly observes, creates and reinvents itself. Perharps this illusion of constant speed makes New York as a city which is always one step ahead. And the fashion week just ended is one example of that.
Give me five is back, this week we have found for you the most interesting brands and details for the next FW 2014.
THE GLITTERING COATS OF RODARTE
Rodarte offers a galactic collection - in every sense - clearly inspired by the most famous saga in the history of the cinema, Star Wars. The iconic characters of George Lucas, which appear on multilayer silk dresses, however, are not the only detail that impressed our eyes. Kate and Laura Mulleavy made us go crazy with their metallic coats. A rain of colorful glitter to light and warm any geek.
THE AVANT-GARDE STREET-WEAR OF HBA
There are a lot of structural aspects about the unisex runaway of Hood By Air so it's better to do an analysis of the show in its entirety, which saw the street soul of the brand merge with a particularly avant-garde approach. Worthy of note are the zips on the pants, the overlaps on the clothes, the use of grommeted suede and the total look of denim and leather. We have also to mention the choices of styling: the Nike Lunar Force 1 High Liquid Metal, the HBA platform boots and the particular hairstyle with extensions in an African style. A mix of artistic spirit and commercial necessity. A collection that hybrid streetwear and high-fashion.
THE 3 DESIGNER OF "VFILES MADE FASHION 2"
Melitta Baumeister, ASSK and Hyein Seo are the lucky talents selected by VFiles for the second edition of "VFiles Made fashion", an initiative with which the retailer give to three young and promising brand the opportunity to make a runaway show during NYFW - and not least, to be in stock in the shop VFiles. The black and white oversized leather garments of Melitta Baumeister, the prints and the strong shades of ASSK and the fur details of Hyein Seo have caught our attention in an interesting way.
THE MAXI LOGO OF DKNY
The woman of DKNY is an urban warrior. A person sure of herself tending a friendly hand to the street culture. We love the first letter of the brand as a maxi logo on bomber jackets, parkas, sweatshirts, all of them in a palette dominated by shades of black and gray. To frame the concept, the New Era caps the models wear. Voilà.
THE MILITARY INSPIRED MINIMALISM OF EN NOIR
We all waited to find out what Rob Garcia, the designer En Noir, had designed for the next season and everyone was excited by the discover. His FW 2014 collection confirms itself as one of the strongest and most complex so far. Each garment, strictly all black, is characterized by clean and simple lines and by multi-dimensional details with a strong military influence. Moreover, the variety of materials used - from the leather, tradermark of En Noir, to neoprene, raw denim and pony-hair - has sanctioned the maturity of the brand.
