Are Rappers the new Rock star?
The merchandising is the new black
October 22nd, 2013
In conjunction with the release of tribute t-shirt to the last Pusha T album, which takes its cue from the epic speech of Mr. Kanye West: "Everything is Pusha T ...", and especially in relation to those that will accompany the American tour album of our black god, Yeezus to speak, we decided to browse a little tee halfway between merchandising and object of desire.
Let's start definitely from "Watch the Throne Tour", with his Majesty Riccardo Tisci sign, who have certainly contributed to the definitive consolidation of the French Maison to the streetwear world too. The tshirt rather than a must have, laid down a graphic mood adopted by many famous brands and yet still in vogue, a real point of reference or departure for everyone.
Immediately to the wheel, we have the ASAP Rocky tee, big logo clearly visible and immediate viral effect, in collaboration with the American cult store RSVP Gallery, which in a certain sense has given rise to the phenomenon of numbers on the back prints inspired by the world of football.
Leaving aside, then the phenomenon of Odd future by Tyler the Creator, which has become in some sense a real brand, the basic idea of our reflection is to understand how the merchandising related to the hip hop world, we hope will let me pass the term, which becomes overbearing tendency to follow, has something in common with the rock concerts tee from 80's. In other words, the slogans "Everything is Pusha T" or "Nothing was the same" or Yeezus the same time, emerge as a cultural and social phenomenon as it has been for Kiss, Metallica and ACDC ?
In fact, the t-shirt created as merchandising of their concerts have become a point of reference in terms of graphic and creative style for any creative dept, young brand or designer who approached to do something from the creative point of view, they had a simple but effective evocative power that held a story, which seemed happy to relive the font, colors and graphics of the tee. A glimpse of that period that still continues to influence us. The question then is immediate: are the American rappers the new rock stars?
Certainly before going to sleep Kanye searches for the answer to this question to write his name in the firmament of international fashion, but to go from influencer creator is not easy, not immediate, in any case, the phenomenon and the power of communication, but especially commercial, is by no means to be underestimated, but ... as we say in the middle and every movement in one direction or another can help us understand how things get.
The Kiss in the '80s built their strength around the merchandising much more than on their songs, the rapper even seem to have made a next step, entering through the front door of the fashion system, trying to changing its scenarios, acting directly in the first person and not in an implicit manner as was done in the past. There remain many questions and few certainty that surely the time and probably the same new collection of Kanye can begin to clarify.
In any case, whether or not the new rock stars or designers of tomorrow, one thing is certain ... everything is rap now ...
