IED Torino presents its Fashion Design course with a new film
Beyond the ‘Fashion Gap’, between digitisation and craftsmanship
February 19th, 2025
In Fashion Gap, a fashion film-manifesto created by IED Torino to showcase the future of fashion design, explores the creative backstage of the academy. Directed by Ivan Cazzola and produced by studio Comodo64, the short film narrates the production process behind the collections of students from the Three-Year Course in Fashion Design, highlighting research, experimentation, and cultural exploration. The result is a manifesto that challenges the speed of the contemporary industry and envisions a future where quality prevails over quantity, where classic codes are deconstructed and reassembled into new visions. The set is the streets of Turin, with the industrial setting of the Marconi campus serving as a backdrop for the work of some young designers. A particularly inspiring theme for the project is the contrast between the digitalization of the industry and contemporary fashion’s focus on craftsmanship and tradition, aspects that clash in search of balance in Fashion Gap.
The protagonists of the film are ten looks created by IED Torino students, expressing the perspective of a generation balancing between the need for protection and the desire for disruption. Through a mix of innovative techniques and sartorial research, the students of IED Torino’s Fashion Design course explore themes such as the perception of time, fluid identity, and the relationship between the individual and the collective. A raw aesthetic that speaks of authenticity and a new sustainable awareness is shaped through digital tools like CLO3D and carefully selected materials. Fashion Gap is more than a fashion film: it is a statement of intent, an invitation to rethink fashion as a space for reflection and change.
