NABA and Central Saint Martins' new summer course in Fashion Design

Two legendary universities join forces

NABA and Central Saint Martins' new summer course in Fashion Design Two legendary universities join forces

NABA and Central Saint Martins - University of the Arts London, among the most influential art and design schools in the world, have announced a unique collaboration: a Joint Summer Course in Fashion Design. This international program, lasting five weeks, will take place from June 30 to August 1, 2025, and represents an immersive educational experience, divided between the campuses of London and Milan. This initiative stems from a shared vision: to offer training based on the learning by doing method, which integrates theoretical lessons on the fashion system with practical experiences and creative workshops. Both academies share the innovative approach of combining theory, practice, and design, stimulating the ability to imagine new creative scenarios and equipping students with the skills needed to realize them. Lorenzo Seghezzi, fashion designer and lecturer at NABA, explained: «The Summer Course created together with Central Saint Martins - University of the Arts London is an important opportunity. It will be a growth journey that, starting from research and the creative process, explored in the first phase of the course in London, will lead students to the development of a real project here in the Milan campus, where they will have the chance to experiment in the Fashion Design labs».

The collaboration between the two academies stems from a shared vision: to offer training based on the learning by doing method, which integrates theoretical lessons with practical workshops and field experiences. Students will have the opportunity to learn about the fashion system and the style philosophies of the most relevant brands, developing creative skills and technical competencies. The program includes two distinct phases. The first will take place in London at Central Saint Martins from June 30 to July 17. Here, students will work on research and the development of a fashion project using 2D drawing and design techniques. The lessons will be complemented by visits to cultural sites in the city to gather inspiration and document their research through photographs and sketches. The second phase will be held at NABA's Milan campus from July 21 to August 1 and will focus on deepening the creative process. Students will use the Fashion Design labs to further develop the work done in London, experiment with fabrics and draping techniques, and create prototypes for a mini-collection. The program will conclude with the creation of moodboards, sketches, and prototypes, enriched by educational visits to Milanese museums.

The course is supervised by experts from both institutions. For Central Saint Martins, the lecturers will be Anna-Nicole Ziesche and Heather Sproat, Joint Pathway Leaders of the BA Fashion: Womenswear, while for NABA, the program will be led by Lorenzo Seghezzi. The academic direction is entrusted to Scott Ramsay Kyle, UAL Study Abroad Academic Lead, and Simone Domenico Liscio, Course Leader of special programs and summer courses at NABA. This collaboration is part of NABA's journey, which for years has worked in synergy with prestigious academic and cultural institutions internationally. Guido Tattoni, Dean of NABA, and Simone Domenico Liscio expressed great satisfaction with the project, defining it not only an academic experience but also a human bond based on shared values. In an era where barriers seem to be growing, this initiative aims to promote dialogue and offer students tools for their personal and professional growth, allowing them to understand and address the multifaceted aspects of the contemporary world. The course is open to students passionate about fashion who have completed at least one year of university. No portfolio is required for admission, and the minimum age to participate is 18. Applications are open until May 12, 2025.
