The government launches the “Days of Italian fashion in the world”
A new impetus for Made in Italy
January 28th, 2025
Today, at Villa Madama in Rome, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, inaugurates the "Giornate della moda italiana nel mondo" (Italian Fashion Days in the World), an innovative initiative aimed at strengthening integrated promotion between the public and private sectors, uniting institutions and the prestige of "Made in Italy". This event marks an important step for the fashion industry, one of the pillars of the Italian economy, which confirms its position as the world's leading producer in the sector. The fashion industry in Italy represents a globally recognized excellence, ranking second in the country for productivity, exports, and turnover. With approximately 600,000 employees and 60,000 companies of various sizes, the sector is a fundamental economic engine, capable of generating value and employment. However, to maintain and strengthen this leadership position, it is essential to promote increasingly close collaboration between institutions, trade associations, and businesses. It is in this context that Minister Tajani has given significant impetus through the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the National Chamber of Italian Fashion (CNMI) and eleven trade associations.
As emphasized by the President of CNMI, Carlo Capasa, the goal is to create a virtuous international network, leveraging Italy's extensive diplomatic network. Embassies, Permanent Representations, Consulates, and Italian Cultural Institutes will be mobilized to support the fashion sector, promoting events and initiatives that enhance its image and counter threats such as international counterfeiting. The fight against counterfeiting, in particular, represents a priority for the sector, and the protocol includes the active involvement of the Guardia di Finanza, which has always been at the forefront of protecting "Made in Italy". This joint effort aims to safeguard the integrity of Italian brands and ensure that the value of authentic products is recognized and preserved worldwide. As part of the "Giornate della moda italiana nel mondo", the first "Fashion Table for Internationalization" will also be held today, a moment of discussion and coordination between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the main trade associations. This working table represents a unique opportunity to define common strategies in a "Country System" perspective, strengthening the presence of Italian fashion in international markets and supporting businesses in their global expansion.
Carlo Capasa expressed great satisfaction with this initiative, calling today "a good day for Italian fashion". Exports have always been at the heart of the sector's business, and the support of the MAECI represents a decisive push for the revival and growth of Italian companies worldwide. Thanks to this collaboration, the fashion sector will be able to rely on a solid and coordinated international network, capable of enhancing the excellence of "Made in Italy" and addressing global market challenges with greater effectiveness. The "Giornate della moda italiana nel mondo" thus represent a historic opportunity to strengthen Italy's role as an undisputed leader in the fashion industry, promoting a model of public-private collaboration that can serve as an example for other productive sectors. With the support of institutions and the creativity of businesses, the future of Italian fashion looks even brighter and more competitive.
