Louis Vuitton and Murakami to launch a 200-piece re-edition
And for the campaign they called no less than Zendaya
December 27th, 2024
Twenty years after the success of their first collaboration, Louis Vuitton and Japanese artist Takashi Murakami return with a re-edition that has all the makings of a new hit. Created specifically for the twentieth anniversary of their first partnership, the collection includes as many as two hundred different items, ranging from bags and accessories to fragrances and footwear. To celebrate the launch, unveiled worldwide on January 1, 2025, Louis Vuitton and Murakami chose to invite Zendaya, cinema and style icon of 2024 and ambassador of the French maison, to participate in the campaign. Captured through the lens of renowned photographers Inez and Vinoodh, the actress embodies all the ideals of the collaboration, including boldness, boundless energy, and vibrancy. Psychedelic and playful elements color the images, celebrating Murakami's iconic imagination featured in the collection.
The undisputed stars of the campaign are the floral motifs created by the founder of the Superflat art movement. For the first time in Louis Vuitton's history, the maison's name has been modified in a campaign, with the initial letters of the logo playfully rearranged by the artist's characters, Superflat and Superflat Panda. Along with the images, Louis Vuitton and Murakami have released two short films in which the artist sends a 2000s-era mobile phone to Zendaya. Moving from Tokyo to New York, once the phone is opened, Murakami's world comes to life all around the actress. The campaign images feature some of the most significant pieces and bags from the collaboration, such as the All in BB, the Speedy, the Keepall, the Monogram Mules, and the silk scarves.
