What not to miss at the next Paris Fashion Week
Major comebacks, first times and notable absences for January 2025
December 17th, 2024
We can say it as a fact, a concrete piece of data, and an opinion shared internationally: in 2024, fashion, its little world, and its key players did not disappoint us. Between an increasingly turbulent game of musical chairs among creative directors, departures, arrivals, collections that made history, and even some drama, one can say we did not get bored this year. And it seems that this wave of excitement will not subside anytime soon; it looks ready to sweep everything away in 2025, with speculations about Jonathan Anderson joining Dior (leading to the departure of Maria Grazia Chiuri and Kim Jones), the debut of Matthieu Blazy at Chanel, even more stunning campaigns by Jacquemus, and potential comebacks of the biggest names who once left the runways. But let’s put aside these gossips for a moment to focus on the facts, with the calendar for Paris Fashion Week set to take place from January 21 to 26, 2025. Between major comebacks, departures, and first times, here’s what you cannot miss at the Paris Men’s Fashion Week next January.
First news, and not the least: Jacquemus is making a grand return to the official Fashion Week calendar. Although we will miss his shows in lavender fields in the middle of July, this return to Fashion Week after five years of independent shows is not a bad thing in itself. A choice that once again proves the drive for change and, above all, control from its head, who is currently searching for a minority investor. Let’s just hope this news does not mark the end of the creative and unique shows that have made Jacquemus the star he is today. But knowing Simon Porte Jacquemus, we are not too worried.
Another major French brand will also make its grand return to the runway this January: Lanvin, armed with its brand-new creative director ready to make an impact. After two years of absence, the house returns stronger than ever alongside Peter Copping, an English designer with a rich and varied experience in the fashion industry, eager to show what he’s capable of. Then we have Willy Chavarria, who will make his debut on the Paris Fashion Week calendar. A regular at New York Fashion Week, this arrival on the Parisian fashion scene stems from a simple desire to share his art beyond American borders. “Although I am a very New York brand, I think the message we convey goes beyond the United States. It is a global message, and it is very important that it is heard worldwide. The more people I can reach, the better”, the designer explains to Vogue Business.
Despite the presence of these major names, certain absences will be felt. Such is the case for Jonathan Anderson. The upcoming series of men’s shows does not include any shows by JW Anderson or Loewe. This double absence has fueled rumors that Jonathan Anderson is preparing for a new creative role that would lead him to leave Loewe. But no worries, both Loewe and JW Anderson will return with co-ed shows during Women’s Fashion Weeks. Despite the absence of our favorite Irish designer, the next Paris Fashion Week already promises to deliver, with a new Louis Vuitton collection by Pharrell opening the festivities on January 21, an ever-dramatic show by Rick Owens on the 23rd, and the (last?) Dior Men’s show signed by Kim Jones. See you on January 21 for the recap.
