MM6 Maison Margiela launches a timeless collaboration with Timex
When eternal luxury meets avant-garde watchmaking
October 24th, 2024
Lately, nothing seems to stop Timex, which keeps releasing more and more original pieces. Just a few days ago, the brand announced the launch of a $1 watch to celebrate its 170th anniversary, and now it's back with a collaboration with MM6 Maison Margiela. The first model in the collection is a ring-watch made of stainless steel with an expandable bracelet. The second, the T80 Steel Watch, is a more traditional watch model, but still decorated with the Maison's iconic numbered label. Echoing the screen design, the clasp of the steel bracelet also bears Margiela's engraved signature. Whether worn together or separately, Margiela and Timex offer three styling options for the price of one.
While the watch and its matching ring may not offer particularly innovative technological features, they are yet another example of a collaboration between a fashion house and a brand seemingly unrelated to the world of clothing. Indeed, MM6 Maison Margiela is not the first to join forces with a brand so different in both aesthetics and products. In 2021, Hermès launched the Apple Watch Series 7, merging the codes of the French house with those of the Californian tech giant. Gucci teamed up with Xbox to create a case adorned with the iconic double G, which contained the console. In a perhaps more classic and less decorative collaboration, Saint Laurent joined forces with Google to create a connected backpack, the cit-e backpack, which even allowed users to listen to music. More recently, Chanel released a hybrid between a watch and headphones, in the form of a wristwatch and a necklace watch. Who knows, unexpected collaborations with a touch of high-tech may well be the future of fashion in tune with the times.
