From mic to screen, always in style

If you don't believe in the law of attraction and that our words create our reality, Tyler, the Creator might just change your mind. Back in 2018, he was singing “Tell Tim Chalamet to come and get me”, now the American rapper is about to enter the world of acting, starring in the upcoming film directed by Josh Safdie (aka A24) titled Marty Supreme, alongside Gwyneth Paltrow and, you guessed it: Timothée Chalamet. Although the plot is still under wraps, it’s already known that it will focus on the life of professional ping pong player Marty Reisman, renowned not only for his sportsmanship but also for his flamboyant and original style. The screenplay is written by the Safdie-Bronstein duo, with production by Eli Bush, Anthony Katagas, and Timothée Chalamet himself.
Born Martin Reisman, also nicknamed the needle for his slim build, Marty, who was born in New York in the 1930s, left a lasting mark on the sport in which he excelled: table tennis. Throughout his career, he won no fewer than 22 major titles, as well as five bronze medals at the world ping pong championships. At the age of 67, he competed in the National Hardbat Championship (USA) and became the oldest player to win a national racket sport competition. All this and much more is detailed in his autobiography, published in 1974, titled The Money Player: The Confessions of America's Greatest Table Tennis Champion and Hustler. In addition to his sporting achievements, what also stands out about Reisman are his unforgettable looks, which left an impression even on those less interested in sports. His sports uniform was, at first glance, unconventional, but it suited him perfectly, allowing him to handle the racket with the utmost ease: original trousers, hats, colorful tops, and large glasses were always part of his signature style.
A sense of fashion and a 70s DNA that fits perfectly with Tyler the Creator’s colorful and maximalist style, which he proudly displays and has made his trademark. Although he first gained fame for his rap in 2011, the American artist has repeatedly proven he has many talents. His first professional shift came in 2016, with the launch of his streetwear brand Golf Wang, offering a wide range of clothing, accessories, and shoes, in collaboration with Converse, bringing the Golf le Fleur collection to life, released the same year as the rapper's album Flower Boy. More recently, he created a men’s capsule collection for Louis Vuitton, launched through a video he directed himself, showing the entire creative process that led to the final result. A first experience in the world of video and cinema? Not exactly, because although Marty Supreme marks the beginning of the artist’s acting career, he has already co-created TV shows such as The Jellies! and Loiter Squad, as well as the documentary series Nuts + Bolts. However, this will be the first time that Tyler Okonma steps on the other side of the camera and has to set aside his colorful personality to adopt that of someone else.
