Tod’s is starting a new chapter in its history today, thanks to an unprecedented collaboration bringing a fresh oriental breeze to the brand, which is fast approaching its fiftieth anniversary. Indeed, Tod’s now offers a complete reinterpretation by New Delhi-based designer Rahul Mishra of some of its iconic pieces, including the Gommino bag and the Di Bag, as well as a whole selection of Tod’s T Timeless accessories for both women and men. A reinterpretation that pays homage to Italian craftsmanship while exalting the essence of Indian art, born within the framework of Tod’s Factory, a creative workshop where designers of all ranks and levels are invited to offer their personal interpretation of the brand, in a productive and stimulating exchange of good ideas.
The collection thus presents iconic models from the House of Tod’s, updated through the use of colorful embroidery, rendering them almost unrecognizable. The items were hand-embroidered by Kaarigar artisans, masters of their craft for generations, elevating the status of craftsmanship to a higher level. Naturally, these embroideries are not merely decorative but also bring cultural elements of Eastern culture to the very Italian DNA of the brand: on the Gommino loafers, for example, a tree of life, symbol of Rahul Mishra, is embroidered with silk threads. The bags, meanwhile, are adorned with floral embroidery on golden saris, enhanced with pearls, rhinestones, and crystals. The collection is available since September 13, following its launch at the Tod's Bond Street boutique during London Fashion Week.
