Glenn Martens exits Y/Project After 11 long years at the helm of the brand

Glenn Martens steps down as creative director of Y/Project after eleven years that have left an indelible mark on the fashion industry. Martens, who also holds the position of creative director at Diesel, has transformed Y/Project into a cult brand, celebrated for its avant-garde designs and twisted constructions. His departure marks the end of an era for the brand, which has enjoyed both critical acclaim and commercial success under his leadership. Y/Project credited Martens with creating a unique narrative for the brand, driving its growth and success globally, as well as for his creative collaborations, including partnerships with Brazilian footwear label Melissa and legendary designer Jean Paul Gaultier.

The announcement of Martens' departure comes at a difficult time: a few months ago, the brand was forced to cancel the FW24 show due to cash flow issues, and more than a year ago, co-founder Gilles Elalouf passed away. In recent years, Y/Project had ambitious expansion plans, with new CEO Pascal Conte-Jodra revealing the intention to double the brand's retail presence and strengthen the accessories business. However, uncertainty surrounding Martens' future with the company may have complicated efforts to secure new investments. Martens' departure raises questions about the future of Y/Project, which is still set to continue with the SS25 show during Paris Fashion Week on September 29 – though it remains unclear whether the show will take place.
