Glass Cypress' fall-winter: in between fashion and art

Glass Cypress - the Houston-based brand, founded in 2016 by brothers Samee and Saber Ahmed, introduces "Buckhead", their FW24 collection imagined as a fusion of unorthodox silhouettes and interpretations of classic tailoring. Through a romantic patina, "Buckhead" manages to emanate Glass Cypress' characteristic free-spiritedness and individuality in every piece, carefully handcrafted in Bangladesh, the founders' ancestral country. Staying true to their original vision, Samee and Saber Ahmed collaborated with traditional artisans to imagine and craft the 120 pieces featured in their FW24 collection. Each piece is treated as a canvas, beginning with the balance of colors, before coming to life with fabrics. The development process is often experimental, allowing for "human" errors, which make each piece unique. Among the most notable pieces, a knitted vest made of a patchwork of fabrics embroidered with Australian pearls, emphasizing the importance of textures in this new collection. Saber’s favorite piece is a full silk shirt, pleated over 100 times, with "balloon" sleeves that stop just before the wrist, allowing an imaginary painter to move freely while working on their next work of art.

A natural tribute to Saber’s other creative practice, who recently presented "'What Is' - Silent & Subdued", his first solo exhibition exploring thought, conditioning, and the intricate relationships among people through 18 paintings. Art, especially painting, has always been a predominant source of inspiration for the creative director, an artist himself, who took on the role of curator for the first time for the exhibition held at the Reeves Art Gallery in Houston. As Ahmed stated, "I believe creatives, no matter what they do, tend to want to express themselves in a very individual way through their style. We wanted to offer artists a platform that allowed them to do just that." The exhibition was on display for a 2-day event in Houston, Texas, from August 30th to 31st.
