Vivienne Westwood and PALACE: the quintessentially british collab
The capsule will be available globally starting from Friday September 6th 2024
September 2nd, 2024
The first collaboration between the British fashion house Vivienne Westwood and the English skateboard brand PALACE is born from the subversive and political spirit that both share. The collection includes clothing, accessories, jewelry, and skateboards, built upon the respective codes of the two entities: culture and humor are at the heart of this project. Tradition and historical references are mixed with sportswear, repeated logos, and technical fabrics. The PALACE triangle logo merges with Vivienne Westwood's iconic orb, and images and prints from the Vivienne Westwood archives are featured on hoodies and t-shirts. The Maison's logomania is combined with the Palace logo and printed on matching denim sets, a miniskirt, and a pilot suit. For the first time in PALACE history, the collection also includes womenswear pieces. Among the accessories, oversized teddy bear-shaped bags inspired by Vivienne Westwood's early '90s iconography stand out.
To underline the disruptive spirit of both entities, the campaign reflects the nature of the capsule, thanks to the lens of Shoichi Aoki, founder of the Japanese street-style magazine FRUiTS. An innovator and icon, Shoichi captures the fusion of fashion and street. His historic documentary shots of characters encountered on the streets of Tokyo were precursors to street-style imagery. The protagonists of the PALACE VIVIENNE WESTWOOD campaign, embodying the spirit of both brands, were shot in the unique style of the legendary Japanese 'zine'. Artists, musicians, skaters, goths, and activists come together, showcasing the collection in their unique style. Among them are American rappers and singers Semetary and Matt OX, '90s model and activist Sibyl Buck, the model couple Ed Teller and Issa Lish, Palace skater Lucien Clarke, and DJ and singer Josh Café. In line with the foundations of FRUiTS, Shoichi photographed the campaign on the streets of London. From the arcades of Soho to Chinatown, from a vintage shop in Camden to a souvenir shop on the fringes of Shaftesbury Avenue: a celebration of the underground street movement. The campaign will be collected in a limited-edition zine, distributed free of charge with in-store purchases.
The collection will be available at PALACE and Vivienne Westwood flagship stores worldwide and Dover Street Market - LND/LA/TOKYO.
