The love story between Isabelle Huppert and Balenciaga keeps going strong in Venice
Coolness has no age nor context
August 30th, 2024
Two days ago, the 81st edition of the Venice International Film Festival kicked off, and with it began the underlying fashion parade that has loyally accompanied it since 1932. However, the fashion action and related twists are not exclusively reserved for the red carpet. French actress and this year's Festival jury president, Isabelle Huppert, is the perfect example: on the 2nd day of the event, with her legendary elegance, she naturally stepped out of the Excelsior hotel wearing a crimson red hoodie and tracksuit set, paired with black sporty sneakers and an "I <3 Paris" cap, all by Balenciaga. And the look was thought through down to the last detail, with the Balenciaga-branded travel cup she carried in her hand. The cheerleading of a French institution combining comfort and Haute Couture, perfect for a stylish coffee break between two premieres. But the love story between the Maison of Avenue George V and the award-winning cinema star is nothing new.
It all began in 2021, during the 74th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, where the actress appeared in a long-sleeved black Balenciaga gown from the SS22 collection. Since then, they have not parted ways. The star has been dressed by Balenciaga for every Festival edition that followed, wearing a futuristic grass-green dress reminiscent of the previous year's edition in 2022, a black lace transparent dress in 2023, and later opting for an ultra-chic white gown resembling a gala-approved bathrobe. And it was of course in a sumptuous Balenciaga gown that the star walked up the steps of the Met Gala last May. But the actress hasn't limited herself to wearing Demna's creations on the red carpet: she actively participates in giving major visibility to the brand through various campaigns and even left her usual front row seat to walk the runway during Paris Fashion Week 2023 at the Balenciaga Couture FW23-24 show. Since 2022, she has posed multiple times alongside some of the biggest pop culture stars like Justin Bieber or Kim Kardashian for the brand's campaigns, such as the one for the SS22 collection, the Characters Campaign last July, and more recently, the Bel Air Campaign.
Regarding the Venice Film Festival, she has also sported full Balenciaga looks, both on the red carpet and during her off-duty days. Upon her arrival, the star opted for a «Canadian tuxedo,» a full faded denim look paired with a simple white t-shirt, accessorized with circuit sneakers and sunglasses. For the much-anticipated premiere of Beetlejuice, directed by Tim Burton, crimson red was already her color of choice, opting for a custom Balenciaga dress inspired by the 45th look from the 50th black Haute Couture collection, modified to red exclusively for the actress and the occasion. A surprising color choice, yet one that perfectly suited the septuagenarian actress, who seems to defy the laws of time and aging, and a fiery color that matched her flaming red hair. And with seven days remaining until the end of the Festival, we have at least seven more occasions to discover ever more modern and innovative fashion statements from the actress, who never fails to surprise and never disappoints her audience.
