Bottega Veneta's new “Liberta” bag
A new expression of the brand's love for the beauty of craftsmanship

The Winter 24 collection by Bottega Veneta stood out for its return to the roots of craftsmanship, one of the brand's founding values. A love for beauty and quality that is particularly expressed through the collection’s standout bags, where Mathieu Blazy breathes new life into classic forms and materials, moving away from the iconic Intrecciato technique that made the brand famous. The core of the collection is indeed smooth leathers and their soft texture. Among the bags seen on the runway, populated by the brand's now classic models, there was a new star: the Liberta bag, a shoulder bag that celebrates the art of simplicity and the artisanal mastery of the brand's ateliers.
Crafted from Smoothie calfskin leather, the Liberta bag stands out for its incredibly smooth texture, a central element of Blazy’s vision that shines a spotlight on the material rather than more complex techniques like Intrecciato. Liberta features a closure with a coaxial loop and a sculptural brass hook, a signature detail the creative director first introduced in previous seasons for the brand's belts. This type of closure emphasizes the bag's uniqueness and history, evoking the design of archival bags from the '70s, but with a modern twist thanks to the softness and almost conceptual abstractness of the deceptively simple design. Thanks to innovative methods applied in the tanneries with which Bottega Veneta collaborates, the Liberta bag's leather is worked to enhance its natural characteristics. The interior of the bag is no less refined: lined with calfskin under the flap and suede inside, the new bag offers a tactile as well as visual experience.
