Fashion recap of the first week of the Olympics From the opening ceremony to the red carpet and the grandstands

While all eyes are on the athletes, whether they are performing on the tatami, in the water, or on parallel bars, fashion has also made its mark on the podium of highlights at these Parisian Olympic Games. And for good reason, the fashion capital of France took the opportunity to dazzle celebrities in the audience as well as athletes active in the competition. From major French fashion houses to emerging designers, let's take a look at all the fashion moments that made this first week of the 2024 Olympic Games special.

The Dior-Signed Opening Ceremony

The bar for looks was set very high even before the competition began, with Maria Grazia Chiuri dressing the VIP guests who performed at the opening ceremony on July 26th. From Aya Nakamura to Céline Dion to Lady Gaga, the Maison won the gold medal for the most beautiful creations of the evening. Custom-made creations matching each singer's personality, ranging from Céline Dion's immaculate dress covered in crystals to Lady Gaga's extravagant outfit composed of black and pink feathers. These works of art, perhaps more than clothing, will remain in the annals of the Maison and the Olympic Games and will be exhibited at the Galerie Dior in Paris until November 30th. A museum that combines history and modernity, from the early career of Christian Dior to the current creations of Maria Grazia Chiuri, all in an immersive setting with a detailed description of each piece and its history.

Simone Biles' Swarovski Crystal Leotards

Not that she needs crystals to shine, but Simone Biles wore a light costume matching her excellence, adorned with no less than 100,000 Swarovski crystals last Sunday. At 4'8", the 27-year-old American gymnast has captured the hearts of the world and continues to impress with her ability to execute moves and jumps that defy the laws of gravity. And since the outfit often makes the athlete, nothing like a leotard that sparkles even from Neptune's height worth $3,000 to match the way the gymnast shines. The 5 members of the American gymnastics team each received this little gem and 8 leotards. The total bill just for their outfits amounts to nearly $100,000, but it seems nothing is too beautiful for these round-off stars who pay it back by bringing home the gold medal.

Mongolia's First Place for Best Uniform

In addition to the race for the sports gold medal, the competition for the best uniform has also raged in recent weeks, with each country offering more original outfits than the other. While the French team sported an air hostess look and the Americans presented an outfit in a very preppy core vibe reminiscent of school uniforms worthy of a romantic comedy made in the USA, Mongolia stood out and won unanimous approval. The creation is signed Michel&Amazonka, a brand owned by three sisters who are experts in traditional Mongolian costume, and is simply breathtaking. The product of quality craftsmanship and a desire to do well, the cut fits perfectly, the fabric is splendid, and the embroidery looks straight out of a dream. Each uniform was handmade, requiring more than 20 hours of work, and is decorated with motifs mixing Mongolian and Olympic culture. A magnificent way to put this small country in the spotlight and give visibility to this talented trio of seamstresses.

Even though there are few people on earth who are unaware of Snoop Dogg's existence and nationality, his presence at the Olympic Games dispelled any doubt about his Americanism if there was any. T-shirt, jacket, scarf: the rapper chains the looks decorated with blue and white stars in the colors of his country. Kendall Jenner seems to have appreciated the trend, as she made her first appearance in the stands wearing a Ralph Lauren zip-up jacket (who also created the uniforms for the American team) decorated with the inscription "USA" and a matching cap. Emma Chamberlain, also American, temporarily put aside her status as a Louis Vuitton ambassador during the festivities, and also appeared dressed head to toe by Ralph Lauren, sporting capri pants paired with a cinched-waist jacket with very equestrian vibes, or a more relaxed outfit consisting of loose pants and a t-shirt also emblazoned with a large USA print.

Celebrities on the Red Carpet

And where there is a global event, there are global stars and promotion. Jeremy Allen White, for example, was present dressed in a total black look signed Louis Vuitton. No matching outfit with his rumored girlfriend Rosalìa who opted for a transparent metallic lace Dior dress. Pierpaolo Piccioli, former creative director at Valentino who recently left, appeared dressed all in white, sunglasses on his nose and a smile on his face. A choice contrary to Zendaya who chose an elegant black strap dress. In a completely different style, Anna Wintour, a fashion guru whose opinion and judgment make even the most daring designers tremble, was photographed several times wearing always flower dresses with a spring look, always obviously accessorized with those sunglasses that never leave her.
