June 28th, 2024
The IED Avant Défilé 2024 event spotlighted the graduating students of the Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan, featuring fashion shows and performances that captivated the audience in Piazza Mercanti. This annual event, which engages the entire city, has celebrated the creativity and innovation of new fashion talents, awarding the best collections inspired by current themes.
Three main awards were given to the young designers. The Fashion System Award, presented by cavalier Mario Boselli of Luxury Jersey, was won by Marco Servedio for his collection 3K, inspired by construction site safety. The collection emphasizes risk prevention through the use of durable and high-performance technical fabrics. Emma Baroni received the Press Award from Yves Tsou, editorial coordinator of CAP 74024 magazine, for her collection Je vois encore, which celebrates the craftsmanship and environment of the Trentino valleys, evoking the warmth of her place of origin. Lastly, Matteo Gagliano was awarded the Public Award by IED professor Michele Guazzone for his collection Cicardian Rhythm, a homage to dreams and the night, characterized by the use of materials such as damask and raw sheep's wool.
The event saw the participation of over 1100 voters who chose the three winners from the ten collections presented. The fashion shows and installations animated Piazza Mercanti and Palazzo Giureconsulti, engaging not only industry professionals but also passersby, tourists, and students. The collections explored various themes, from craftsmanship to technology, cultural and social influences. Among the exhibited collections, some stood out for the originality and depth of the themes addressed. For example, Azione di cura by Alessia Ferrucci is a tribute to cleaning and domestic workers, ennobling their daily gestures. Momento by Christian Torchia draws inspiration from techno clubbing atmospheres, exploring a less sugar-coated vision of the world, while Not scary by Filippo Ghini offers an immersion into gothic and horror, using clothing as a means to influence perception.
Federico Boselli, CEO of Luxury Jersey, highlighted the importance of craftsmanship and creativity in Italian fashion, emphasizing how IED serves as a springboard for young designers. Antonio Moscogiuri, Editor in Chief of CAP 74024, expressed emotion and pride in awarding a student from the same school he attended. Olivia Spinelli, Head of Fashion School IED Milano, praised the courage and responsibility of the graduates in presenting themselves to a broad audience, demonstrating the importance of design as a way of life, quoting Ettore Sottsass. IED Avant Défilé 2024, realized with the sponsorship of the City of Milan and the National Chamber of Italian Fashion, has once again demonstrated how Italian fashion is a blend of creativity, innovation, and respect for tradition. The presented collections not only highlighted craftsmanship but also addressed relevant social themes, confirming IED's crucial role in shaping future designers.
