Pharrell Williams' new adidas Superstars
There's a love story between Pharrell and the brand
June 24th, 2024
The relationship between adidas and Pharrell Williams is a lasting love story that spans historical periods that have shaped our way of dressing. It's a liaison that shows no intention of ending - not even with Pharrell's appointment as creative director of Louis Vuitton. Last week, Louis Vuitton's SS25 took place on the rooftop of Maison de l'UNESCO in Paris, marking the conclusion of Pharrell Williams' initiatives in the Paris Fashion Week calendar. In fact, days before the breathtaking Louis Vuitton show, Pharrell - who is not only an artist but also a successful entrepreneur - organized an event with Humanrace and Joopiter, his auction house. He took the opportunity to present what could potentially become adidas's next "big thing," a chunky version of the iconic adidas Superstar. As evidenced by the latest posts on Skateboard's Instagram profile, Pharrell unveiled the sneaker design.
Most likely, the OG white and black colorway will be sold by the Three Stripes brand with two pairs of laces, one pink and one green. Pharrell's latest Instagram photo also reveals another colorway in black and red - though it might be a friends & family version. Worth noting is Pharrell's choice to wear the new sneaker paired with a cowboy hat and bootcut denim - an original way to blend skateboarding and Western imagery. Pharrell Williams' new sneaker design mirrors what Vans did in 2023 with the launch of the Knu Skool model, an oversized version of the iconic Old Skool model. Alongside the adidas Superstar 92, Pharrell Williams will also launch the 72 and 82 models, catering to those who prefer non-chunky silhouettes. The release date remains a mystery as of now, but we can imagine it will be announced for 2025, the tenth anniversary of the launch of Pharrell Williams' first adidas Superstar.
