The avavav x Eastpak collaboration sees double
When humour and functionality take the lead
February 23rd, 2024
Now we know: AVAVAV's shows always offer surprising scenes, with humor and absurdity that have been part of the brand's DNA since its beginnings. After the runway show on Sunday, February 25, at Milan Fashion Week, the brand has finally revealed a new collaboration, this time with Eastpak, a globally famous backpack brand known for its iconic colors and the slogan that distinguishes them: Built To Resist. The two brands brought uniquely shaped bags to the runway, split and multiplied as if the audience were seeing double. Combining Eastpak's functional style with AVAVAV's ironic irrationality, the collaboration explores a universe where everything is strange and therefore unique.
Beate Karlsson, creative director of AVAVAV, explained that for the collaboration, she chose to add a playful detail to Eastpak backpacks, amplifying their practicality. «For the avavav x Eastpak collaboration, I wanted to design something based on Eastpak's DNA but also introduce new avavav silhouettes. So, I started with the most obvious base: the Padded Pak'r. I liked the organic and round shape, so I began connecting it in different ways, deconstructing it and multiplying it to create new silhouettes. I like how it gives an almost utilitarian look when multiplied, as seen in the Bumbag and Reader models. It also makes sense for me to create a Double Pak'r as it starts to resemble the shape of fingers. To complete the capsule, we also created the Mini Bag, based on the silhouette of the bag we will launch this year.»
