5 moments you missed at the 2024 Grammys

From Taylor Swift announcing the new album release date to criticism from Jay-Z and Travis Scott

5 moments you missed at the 2024 Grammys From Taylor Swift announcing the new album release date to criticism from Jay-Z and Travis Scott

Last night, in the vibrant heart of Los Angeles, a new evening dedicated to Hollywood stars was held. At the 2024 Grammy Awards, presented at the Crypto Arena, the red carpet shone with its own light thanks to the participation of artists like Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, Doja Cat, and SZA (the performer who garnered the most nominations last night). The audience was captivated by an unstoppable show - lasting three and a half hours, much to the dismay of those present who had hoped to wrap it up in a couple of hours - with performances by some of the most followed pop and rap artists in the world, but, as every year, criticisms were not lacking.

Here are 5 moments you missed at the 66th Grammy Awards.

Dua Lipa kicks off with a new single

The 66th Grammy Awards were inaugurated by Dua Lipa, whose energy overwhelmed the stage of the Crypto Arena with Houdini, Dance the Night Away, and her new unreleased song, Training Season. An exhibition that took the audience by surprise with a rather complex choreography, Dua Lipa's medley set the Grammy stage on fire.

Miley Cyrus's looks and complaints against the audience

Not even Miley Cyrus's roaring outfits, on the red carpet in custom Maison Margiela and on stage in vintage Bob Mackie, were enough to incite frenzy among the Grammy audience. After winning for her single Flowers, Cyrus complained to the audience, too disinterested in her performance. «Why are you acting like you don't know this song?» the singer asked during the first chorus of the song.

Taylor Swift sets a new record and announces her new album

For singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, last night's Grammys were an unforgettable evening. Not only did she take home her fourth statuette for Album of the Year, with Midnights, an accolade that gives her the record for the artist with the most awards in the category, but she also announced the release date of her next project, The Tortured Poets Society, scheduled for April 19. After the announcement, Swift stated that she would post the new cover on social media as soon as she stepped off stage. And so she did.

Jay Z defends Beyoncé alongside daughter Blue Ivy

@beyoncebe4 I’ve tried posting this 3 times and copyright is kicking me so baddd #beyoncebe4 #fyoncé #grammys #jayz #beyonce Empire State Of Mind - JAY-Z

In a strange turn of events, history repeats itself, and thus the merits of Taylor Swift and Beyoncé are once again compared on live television. This time it was the star's husband, author of Renaissance, who complained about the jury's choices. Alongside daughter Blue Ivy, Jay-Z took to the stage of the Crypto Arena to receive the Dr. Dre Global Impact award but took the opportunity to criticize the Grammys. «When I get upset, I tell the truth,» commented the rapper, then adding, addressing Beyoncé, seated among the audience: «I don't want to embarrass this young lady, but she has more Grammys than anyone else and has never won one for Album of the Year. So, even by your standards, it doesn't work. Think about it. The most Grammys and never an Album of the Year award. It doesn't work.»

Travis Scott turns the Grammys into Utopia

Failing to take home any awards in this edition as well, Travis Scott used his performance on the Grammy stage to launch an attack on the Grammys. During a performance that brought all the charge of Utopia to the Crypto Arena, where the rapper sang MY EYES, I KNOW?, and FE!N, Scott shouted «They slept on me ten times!» referring to the ten nominations he has received at the Grammys over the years. An evening full of records and memorable moments, the 66th Grammy Awards also received a good dose of criticism, this time delivered to the jury directly from the stage.
