Omo Oba of ABELA reinterprets the football shirt Inspired by Yoruba culture

Sportswear brand ABELA has decided to take the field this season with Omo Oba, a football shirt created on the principles of tailoring and sophistication. ABELA's jersey takes the stylistic codes of footballers' uniforms, a garment loved by the fashion crowd, and transforms them through bright purple hues and an oversized silhouette.

The Omo Oba look finds its origins in West Africa, from the Yoruba group, and is inspired by their traditions. The name, meaning Child King to indicate a sense of nobility, is featured on the chest of the jersey in a drippy graphic, a nod to the brand name, ABELA, which means candle in Yoruba. In addition to bearing the brand logo, the jersey looks to football team emblems through the symbol Olujimi, or God has given me, surrounded by the phrase Born & Live like a candle, a design that celebrates the cycle of life, perseverance and rebirth.

Pieces from ABELA023's "OMO OBA" campaign will be exclusively available on FRIDAY, October 13, 2023 on Abela's website
