Hermès and Apple unveiled their new watch bands
Rubber, mesh, and the first knitted band
September 13th, 2023
Yesterday, Apple and Hermès presented their new smartwatch bands to the public. Adding four new designs and a custom radial to the already extensive collection of the two brands, they put to rest the rumours that had been raised in recent days about a possible break in the collaboration, started in 2015, as Hermès had removed all Apple products from its site days before the show. On the occasion of the launch of the Apple Watch Series 9, at the Wanderlust event they unveiled some eco-friendly designs, exploring materials beyond leather, including rubber, mesh, and their first ever knitwear band. On the same day, Apple confirmed that it will never again use leather in its productions, even in the case of watch bands, while the French company's boutiques will continue to offer classic Apple Watch band models.
The Bridon Model is hand-woven with a chevron pattern, the Kilim is made of waterproof embossed rubber, while the two fabric editions, the Toile H, which echoes the canvas of Hermès bags, and the Twill Jump, with contrasting orange and khaki details, are inspired by the stylistic codes of the French maison, although they have no leather components. These new releases are joined by the Hermès Radial, a custom dial that matches the new bands, with customised fonts and the French fashion house's logo at its centre. « The Apple and Hermès collaboration is the meeting of two cultures united by common values: the quest for excellence and authenticity,» Hermès said in a statement. The bands will go on sale to the public from 22 September.
