The most anticipated shows of New York Fashion Week
From the return of Ralph Lauren and the absence of other great names
September 7th, 2023
New York Fashion Week will kick off tomorrow, this year running from 8 to 13 September. Despite the return of one of the giants of New York fashion like Ralph Lauren, the edition promises to be very different from past ones, between Peter Do's move to Paris and other excellent defections. Leaving aside names that are now historical NY Fashion Week names such as Coach or Michael Kors, realities such as Elena Velez, Melke, and KLG are just some of the new talents to watch out for on the New York catwalks. With them will also be Collina Strada, Dion Lee, Eckhaus Latta, LaQuan Smith, Proenza Schouler, Puppets & Puppets, and Willy Chavarria.
Anyway, here are the most anticipated shows of New York Fashion Week SS24.
Ralph Lauren
Ralph Lauren's last appearance at New York Fashion Week was in September 2019, even before the world was immobilized by a pandemic and the fashion industry together with it. On 8 September, the designer will return to the brand's hometown after a two-year detour that saw him present his new collections off the calendar, between Los Angeles and Milan.
Gabriela Hearst
Gabriela Hearst is a regular name on the New York Fashion Week calendar, but this September the industry audience will be paying special attention to the Uruguayan designer. Last June, the designer announced that she would be stepping down as creative director of Chloé, as the fashion house moved towards the official launch of a partnership with Angelina Jolie's new brand.
Khaite
If there's one thing TikTok does well for the fashion industry, it's offering deserving emerging designers the opportunity to achieve success in a short period of time. Khaite, a favorite name among influencers and contemporary fashion enthusiasts, will return to New York Fashion Week this season with a show scheduled for Saturday 9 September, restoring the air of newness and modernity that has made the event famous worldwide.
Helmut Lang
Three months after his appointment as creative director of Helmut Lang, Peter Do is preparing to present his namesake brand's show for the first time in Paris, and the first collection at the helm of Helmut Lang in New York, with his feet firmly planted in the place where the brand was founded - perhaps out of superstition? Peter Do's show for Helmut Lang will be on Friday 8 September, thus inaugurating not only New York Fashion Week but the entire Fashion Month.
