Bottega Veneta and Gaetano Pesce will present an installation for Design Week
The creative partnership between the brand and the Italian artist continues
April 3rd, 2023
After Gaetano Pesce was commissioned to create a temporary, site-specific artwork for the set of the Bottega Veneta Summer '23 fashion show, the dialogue moves into a new phase of exploration. Once again, his creativity was given free rein: Pesce creates 'Vieni a Vedere', an immersive installation at the Bottega Veneta shop in Via Montenapoleone, which can be visited for a week, from 15 to 22 April, and where the artist's handmade bags can be purchased.
«The space where we present the bags is a cave. It is narrow, you go through it one by one, whether underground or above ground, you find a way through. What you actually pass through is the silhouette of a figure shooting hoops. It almost represents a victory - it is not clear whether it will hit the hoop or not. In this case, the victory is a discovery, the discovery of the language of representation. It's about opening up new avenues of design» the artist comments. The installation, which spans the entire shop, uses resin and fabric to create a unique experience that accompanies the visitor and frames an edition of bags made by Bottega Veneta from Pesce's designs.
Pesce's bags, which are not purely functional but figurative and connected to personal stories, are highly idiosyncratic in terms of both craftsmanship and creativity. The bags evoke her early childhood in Italy, where she grew up near the mountains of Este, and the prairies in America, where she now lives. Bottega Veneta's leather workers and artisans have reused the distinctive Intrecciato, but in a completely new way based on Pesce's sketches. Rolling mountains and grassy prairies are reflected in the unique techniques and handwork, with a striking and joyful effect. Each glossy Intrecciato bag is individually airbrushed to resemble Pesce's watercolour rendering and reproduce the artist's brushstrokes on the tassel.
