The LV Trainer trainer capsule celebrating the New York underground scene
From Feb. 24 to March 16 on display at Garage Traversi in Milan
February 23rd, 2023
Louis Vuitton presents White Canvas: LV Trainers in Residence, a new collection of limited edition trainers LV, reinterpreted by internationally renowned artists. The project was developed by Louis Vuitton from an idea by the former artistic director of the men's collection Virgil Abloh in collaboration with Sky Gellatly. The iconic leather LV trainer serves as a blank canvas for the artistic exchange between Louis Vuitton and the participating artists. An invitation to the free expression of creativity, the collaboration builds on Louis Vuitton's historical association with the arts and the evolution of its ongoing creative conversations across different fields and cultural contexts.
To celebrate the launch, the House announces "White Canvas: LV Trainer in Residence", an exhibition dedicated to the first collection in a new series of artistic reinterpretations of the LV Trainer. Three limited editions of the iconic LV Trainer, created in collaboration with artists Lady Pink, Lee Quiñones, and the Estate of Rammellzee, will be presented on 24 February 2023. The creations, the first of an artistic exchange program dedicated to LV Trainers, will be on display at Louis Vuitton's Garage Traversi in Milan from 24 February to 16 March 2023. On the occasion of the exhibition, the LV trainers will be available in limited quantities exclusively at the Milan shop.
Guests of the first event three celebrated artists from the New York underground scene of the 1980s, were called upon to reinterpret the LV Trainer. Originally designed by Virgil Abloh for Spring-Summer 2019, his first runway show for Louis Vuitton, the LV Trainer fuses the original basketball shoe codes with the iconography and savoir-faire of the Maison. Conceived by Abloh as the ultimate luxury trainer, it has appeared in a plethora of adaptations in Louis Vuitton's men's collection and has become an icon for sneaker fans, a status reinforced by the "White Canvas: LV Trainer in Residence" project.
