Scandicci is an Italian excellence known for its district of luxury leather goods. For this reason, the town in the province of Florence is working on a 12,000-square-metre campus to house students from all over the world. The redevelopment of the city center, led by architect Richard Rogers, could include the construction of a new building along the axis of the tramway to Florence and near the Russell Newton Institute (the largest in the province) and the Polimoda city administration.
«The project includes student housing, but also workshops, and is expected to be the result of a private investment, so no tenders are required, only the approval of the municipality», Andrea Giorgi, deputy mayor in charge of urban planning, budget and local taxes, and public works, among other things, told MFF. «We estimate that it will take about three years to implement the works and we are working to have news by next spring», he continued. The municipality is looking into the Its Mita dossier, a highly professional institute in the field of fashion techniques, as it sees the project as an advancement in response to the high demand for qualified personnel from fashion companies.
