Acne Studios presents the new issue of Acne Paper
Dedicated to the fictional figure of Atticus, it brings together art, music and design
November 3rd, 2022
After returning last year, Acne Paper continues its journey between book and magazine in a new format and revamped design direction. The latest issue marks another step forward, combining the idea of biography, novel, cultural art magazine, and fashion magazine around the story of Atticus, a fictional character in the art world who will celebrate his own 100th birthday during Acne Paper's launch in Milan.
Acne Paper 17 is the most significant volume to date. It includes works by more than fifty contemporary artists, including Kai Althoff, Felipe Baeza, Maria Bartuszová, Louise Bonnett, Victor Brauner, Enrico Castellani, Julie Curtiss, Chioma Ebinama, Inka Essenhigh, Lucio Fontana, Marguerite Humeau, Marina Karella, Sarah Lucas, René Magritte, Piero Manzoni, Fabio Mauri, Minoru Nomata, Ariana Papademetropoulos, Christina Quarles, Eileen Quinlan, Nathaniel Mary Quinn, Ed Ruscha, Anj Smith, John Stezaker, Salman Toor, Cy Twombly, Paloma Varga Weisz, Andy Warhol, and Lian Zhang, to name a few.
At the center of the publication are the memoirs written by Atticus, a journey through his life that starts with his career as a dancer and then becomes a personality in the art world. It is a journey that passes through a number of figures in the art world, including musicians, writers, designers, architects, and people whom Atticus admired, met, and befriended. The heart of the biography, however, is his relationship with Desmond, the love of his life. The author also reminds us of the dramatic AIDS epidemic and the many people who lost their lives. Also within this special portfolio is a tribute to the work of artists such as Darrel Ellis, Arch Connelly, Jimmy Wright, and Larry Stanton, whose paintings and drawings will be the subject of a special collaboration with Acne Studios to benefit an AIDS charity.
The new Acne Paper is available for preview at the Via Giardini 2 newsstand in Milan and on the brand's website.
