The futuristic aesthetic of the new Versace Odissea sneaker
With an upper decorated with a 3D rubber Medusa
July 11th, 2022
Among the many novelties seen on Versace's latest runways is one that has caught the attention of viewers for two collections in a row, Pre-Fall 2022 and FW22: a new sneaker with a massive structure crowned, in the central part of the upper, by a 3D sculpted rubber Medusa that replaces the classic tongue. The sneaker is called Versace Odissea - a name reminiscent of Greek mythology, but also the drive toward travel and the discovery of new territories. And just as the journey into the unknown can only be a push into the future, a journey into space and the stars, the shape of the Odissea sneaker, with its strong structure, is also reminiscent of something halfway between a spaceship and bicycle helmets.
The idea behind its design is that of total dynamism - an idea quite appropriate for a sneaker, which is evoked through the rubber structural elements integrated with the classic leather upper. The main of these, as well as the most eye-catching, is definitely the 3D Medusa that defines the aesthetic of the entire silhouette. Another important structural element is the midsole, which features a protruding structure that extends over the heel, reminiscent of a racing car's wing, and bears Versace's branding engraved on it. The visual motif of architectural structuring continues throughout the sole traversed by grooves. The leather upper, on the other hand, follows the style of basketball sneakers, with a perforated toe cap and a heel tab on which is written the lettering "Odissea," which is also repeated on the tongue below the branding. All the different elements of the sneaker are harmonized by the monochromatic colorway of which there are six different shades: black, white, ultramarine blue, pink, brown and silver.
