The new Forum stars in the first adidas x Foot Locker Block Party
From the court to the streets
June 10th, 2022
After last year's series of releases that had already ignited Forum-mania in 2021, the model is back in the limelight in a new colour scheme. The adidas Forum, perhaps the brand's most iconic basketball shoe, is tinged for the first time with a bright green and ochre yellow and purple, bold and cheerful shades perfect for spending the summer wearing your faithful trainers on your feet. The Forum is one of the basketball temples of the city of Los Angeles and the stage for the most heated rivalry in basketball history, pitting the two sides of the United States and their fans against each other. To celebrate the release on Saturday 18 June, adidas will present an exclusive Block Party inspired by American NBA culture that will feature DJ sets, live performances, basketball games, street food, drinks and games in a location yet to be discovered. From 5 p.m. onwards there will be numerous challenges such as the 3-Point Competition: basketball and fun will be the undisputed stars of the event, together with live performances by talented DJs and freestyle exhibitions and challenges with Da Move.
The 1980s were a decisive decade for the success and legacy of adidas. In 1984 the brand first presented the adidas FORUM, one of the most popular and recognised basketball silhouettes, at the Los Angeles Olympics. Designed by Jacques Chassaing, the trainer inherited elements and details from other models of the brand, but it was the innovations introduced in the design that really made the difference: the sole designed to absorb all types of shock, the Criss-Cross Ankle System, the trainer's most famous and recognisable detail, and an X-shaped side panel, as well as the Velcro strap. For more than thirty years, the shoe has been offering a fresh and versatile look, adapting to new trends through unexpected releases and new colourways, while the leather upper, combined with the rugged sole, gives a retro look with a nod to the future, so much so that the campaign portrays members of Gen Z in typical NBA atmospheres.
Contributing to the Forum's eternal return to trend are the various celebrities who have chosen the silhouette over the years or collaborated with adidas to convey their very personal vision of the model, from Bad Bunny to Beyoncé for IVY PARK, from Saudi Arabian designer Arwa Al Banawi to Nigo and Yohji Yamamoto, as well as the most recent collab with Prada. The new colourway brings character and playfulness to an authentic and successful design, while the mesh profile is reminiscent of basketball jerseys, perfect for a basketball game but also for a night out.
