The Louis Vuitton x Nike Air Force 1 on display in New York
The exhibition and release of the Air Force 1 by Virgil Abloh sneakers
May 18th, 2022
After selling 200 pair of sneakers in February 2022 through an auction to benefit The Virgil Abloh "Post Modern" Scholarship Fund, the Louis Vuitton x Nike Air Force 1 are officially ready for release. The LVMH Group cult brand also announced that from May 20-31, the 47 editions of the Virgil Abloh-signed Air Force 1s will be on display for the Louis Vuitton and Nike Air Force by Virgil Abloh exhibition in New York, engaging the entire city with a series of art installations related to the event.
The exhibition will be open to the public in New York's Greenpoint Terminal Warehouse and, with a contamination of physical and virtual form, will tell the story of the creative dialogue between Nike and Louis Vuitton envisioned by the celebrated creative director before his passing. Walking through the exhibition, guests, surrounded by 3-D printed statues similar to those built by Virgil Abloh, will have the chance to see a giant version of the logo reflected in a mirrored ceiling.
The sneakers, on the other hand, are scheduled to launch in June 2022: 9 editions - first presented as part of the SS22 collection - have been selected for in-store release. The models include the mid-top (€2,500) and low-top (€2,000) and will be available in Nike sizes ranging from size 3.5 to 18. The release includes the classic all-white sneaker with embossed Louis Vuitton monogram and a black suede version. This will be followed by two-tone editions in white with green, red and blue details that recall the rainbow, a key motif of Virgil Abloh's creative project. There will also be a metallic gold sneaker, a tribute to the creative director's debut collection, and finally a Damier edition decorated with a Louis Vuitton graffiti motif created by artist Ghusto Leone.
