The new collaborative capsule of Salomon x Comme des Garçons
The gorpcore aesthetic revisited by Rei Kawakubo
October 22nd, 2021
After their first collaboration seen in the SS21 collection, Salomon and Comme des Garçons have co-signed a new capsule collection dedicated to hiking aesthetics and presented during the brand's FW21 collection. The models of the capsule, both genderless, are declined in the black and white palette favored by the Rei Kawakubo brand and are called XA-Alpine and Cross. The most interesting consideration of the collaboration concerns the way in which Kawakubo has been able to integrate two sneakers with such a futuristic appearance into a conceptual and avant-garde collection like that of Comme des Garçons, transforming design technology into abstractness of lines and volumes.
The first model, the XA-Alpine, is a fusion of creative design and technical performance. Equipped with clean lines, a minimal silihouette and futuristic details, the design of the XA-Alpine is supported by distinctive technical features inspired by the discipline of alpine running, with its protective outer layer that can be removed from the elements and the midsole that absorbs every impact. The other model, the Cross, has an upper decorated with a pied-de-poule pattern grafted onto the structure of an all-terrain shoe equipped with Salomon's Contagrip sole that increases traction in difficult conditions from the technical terrain.
