The art of weaving in Loewe latest collection in collaboration with Sotheby's
A project that celebrates the highest form of craftsmanship
May 11th, 2021
Loewe has announced a collaboration with the auction house Sotheby's, for the LOEWE Weaves project: a collection of unique handicrafts including galician chestnut roasts, decorated by various artists, bags, baskets and woven leather accessories.
LOEWE Weaves explores the weaving technique both in its decorative function and as a method of building a structure. The main protagonist of the collection is the Galicia pot to roast chestnuts whose holes can become the support for the realization of different weaving techniques. As for accessories, LOEWE Weaves also applies the art of weaving to the processing of leather and raffia accessories embellished with handcrafted details: bags, bracelets, but also vases with weaves and knots.
Sotheby's will exhibit a selection of seven vases decorated and embellished with experimental weaving techniques by Japanese artist Arko, Chinese Min Chen and Spanish Laia Arqueros. The vases, handmade by the master potter Antonio Pereira and reinterpreted by the three artists, will be exhibited alongside the incredible pieces of the auctions of Sotheby's in New York.
The exhibition has begun last May 1 with some of the 20th and 21st century works of art that Sotheby's will auction on May 12, the last day of the exhibition. The protagonists of the exhibition will be sold at a fixed price on Sotheby's e-commerce platform starting from May 1st, a choice that makes LOEWE the first luxury fashion brand that will sell its items exclusively through the auction house platform. Another 84 vases created by the brand's artisans will be exhibited and will be on sale in LOEWE stores around the world.
