Nicole McLaughlin, one of the most interesting designers on the New York scene as well as queen of upcycling, coming back from partnerships with Crocs and Puma, was chosen by Arc'teryx as the brand's first design ambassador, which has signed her for a multi-year partnership. The Vancouver-based brand will provide the designer with its resources and technical innovations as McLaughlin conducts the fall workshops at Arc'teryx Academy in New York. To celebrate the new synergy, McLaughlin created two unique items using the materials provided by the brand: a trolley created from two Bora 62 backpacks and a camping tent made from Gore-Tex fabric scraps. The two items will be auctioned off with the proceeds donated to an association chosen by the designer.
The brand has stressed that, while it concerns finished products, the partnership will focus on the implementation of more sustainable practices. Arc'teryx has always been attentive to its production ethic, with one of its factories in Vietnam certified for fair trade and the launch of a million-dollar initiative to promote the culture of outdoor sports. The brand has also committed to reducing its emissions by 65% across its entire supply chain, from headquarters to distribution and material processing centres.
