The new Slam Jam x New Balance 991
Released along with an apparel capsule collection
May 3rd, 2021
Slam Jam and New Balance have elevated their role as retailers and brands reaching the status of tastemakers, realities able to give shape to new trends and new ways of intending fashion. For the SS21 season, Slam Jam and New Balance have joined forces once again to design a sneaker, the iconic 991, and an apparel capsule.
This rendition of the cross-generational favourite 991 reflects a signature Slam Jam colour scheme across a ripstop nylon upper which features tough pigskin leather and reflective piping around the iconic New Balance logo. The shoe comes with a reflective grey insole and the special option of grey, black or red shoelaces with custom translucent lace locks featuring the Slam Jam logo. The project marks a continuation of the unfinished 990v3, a coveted joint collaboration that produced 89 pairs of the 990v3 back in 2019.
The clothing fits in line with the ideology behind Slam Jam's (Un)corporate Uniforms project - an ongoing global expression based around the study of the ultimate uniform. A waterproof Anorak and Track Pant set feature a relaxed fit, both brand logos and reflective detailing at bio-motion points–designed with movability in mind. The jacket has a quarter zip and a kangaroo pouch for easy access on the go, while the pants include zipped pockets and the option to zip-off from waist to cuff. Both products have adjustable bungee cuffs to maximise comfort and functionality.
The items will be launched at Slam Jam doors and globally online from 7 May, alongside the iconic New Balance store in Shap (Cumbria, UK) near the brand’s Made in UK factory located in Flimby. The drop will hit selected retailers worldwide as of 13 May.
