A fire destroyed the Tuscan factory in Valentino
There is already a recovery plan in place that also includes the use of one of Prada's nearby factories
April 12th, 2021
In the night between 1 and 2 April, a fire broke out in the Valentino factory located in Bucine, in the province of Arezzo. The effects of the fire were devastating: 90% of the factory went up in smoke, including 38,000 pairs of shoes already produced that turned the disaster into multimillion-dollar economic damage for the brand. Fortunately, Jacopo Venturini, CEO of the brand, has already presented a plan to resume the business as early as next month revealing that, among others, Patrizio Bertelli of Prada was among the first to offer his help:
«“I would also like to thank from the bottom of my heart Patrizio Bertelli, Prada CEO, who immediately contacted us to express his solidarity and by making available one of his factories located a few kilometers away from our production site».
The Prada factory will serve to resume the brand's production activities including product development, various craft activities related to production and finishing work. In addition to the temporary use of the Prada plant, Valentino has already implemented the other steps of the recovery plan, the first that will take place in the VFS factory in Montelupo Fiorentino, preparing a double working shift and a new organization of craftsmanship and industrial processes; and another that involves the relocation of a small part of the employees within the VSL logistics hub that is located next to the previously functioning structure. The brand has also renewed its desire to minimize«the economic and social impact» of the incident making sure that the activities are not interrupted for the 160 employees of the factory and that the production and quality of the brand's footwear collections will remain unchanged.
