Dolce & Gabbana is suing Diet Prada for defamation and damages. According to the indictment, Diet Prada is liable for financial damages and harm following its coverage of the infamous promotional video published by the brand in 2018 and accused of racism against the Chinese community. Diet Prada was the first influential media platform to report the news, highlighting the racial stereotypes of the content. After international backlash, the Italian designers had to apologize and had to cancel the show scheduled in Shanghai. The indictment seeks compensation of three million dollars for the brand and a million dollars for Stefano Gabbana, accused by Diet Prada of making racist comments in a chat.
Diet Prada will be defended in court by the Fashion Law Institute of Fordham Law School which will offer its pro bono services in collaboration with the Italian firm AMSL Avvocati.
