110 years of FILA
Retraced in a collection that gathers the brand's most iconic pieces
March 1st, 2021
It was back in 1911 when the Fila brothers opened the doors of their knitwear company in Coggiola, the first step in a journey that would bring the name of the two brothers to become that of one of the most successful brands in the history of world sportswear, spread today in 11 different nations around the world. This year FILA celebrates its 110th anniversary, a very important birthday, with a collection born from the collaboration of the brand with the British stylist and creative director Katie Grand, who curated a selection of the best items of the centuries-old FILA archive and which was then presented through a short film directed by Steve Mackey. Here's what Grand had to say about her working method:
I chose pieces from the archive that I reacted to immediately: I was surprised at how modern most of them are and this is mainly due to the fact that they have such an iconic logo and brand.
For her selection, Katie Grand has recovered the technical clothing originally born for disciplines such as tennis, basketball and golf but also aquatic and mountain sports. The archive items have been repurposed and redesigned with a modern update that preserves their vintage charm, producing a real compilation of the most iconic sportswear garments produced in the hundred and ten years of history of Fila. Golf jackets and sweaters, swimwear and bobsleigh jumpsuits, jerseys and basketball shorts, aerobics, mountain duvets and race jumpsuits – the entire FILA sports universe, together with its iconic logo designed in 1973 by Sergio Privitera, return in all their splendour showing that the brand will also be its hundred and ten years old but that it still carries them very well.
