Diesel's first campaign under Glenn Martens
Love is the key
February 15th, 2021
Eight couples who meet and love each other, these are the protagonists of When Together the fashion film created for Diesel's SS21 campaign – the first made under the creative direction of Glenn Martens, the designer who became famous thanks to his deconstructed designs for Y/Project. With this new campaign, which is part of Diesel's tradition of bold and surprising advertising, the brand tells of the universality of love and interprets that desire for the reunion that has assailed the world after the lockdown. Martens said:
Diesel, to me, has always been a radical protagonist, with her frank honesty and sense of humor. His unique voice has made him an undeniable cultural icon. I want to celebrate diesel's founding values and start again by building bridges through a message of hope, optimism and inclusiveness. We're really working for a better future.
The images and the film, directed by documentary filmmaker Cheryl Dunn, were shot in a location in New York, where eight partners were placed in familiar environments trying to describe with absolute frankness their interactions and reflections on absence, desire and physical connection, capturing humanity in its most authentic exchanges, even when they become complicated, passionate, or entropic. The eight couples were chosen in New York, based on their wide range of different experiences of absence, the different emotions they evoked and the sensations that resulted through these reconnections.
