Dior's Baroque paintings for the SS21 campaign
Maria Grazia Chiuri returns to dialogue with classical art
January 8th, 2021
After the last Resort 2021 campaign, inspired by pre-Raffaelian paintings, Dior returns to dialogue with classical art with a campaign for the SS21 season shot by Elina Kechicheva that evokes the compositions of baroque paintings and the use of Caravaggio light. The shots visible today are just a preview of the wider campaign that will make its debut next Sunday.
The brand wrote in an official statement that it wanted to give the shots "the unique power of painting" and in fact, since last year all the campaigns and shows for the brand's women's collections, directed by Maria Grazia Chiuri, have entered into dialogue with art, first with the short film signed by Matteo Garrone, then with the pharaonic show of Lecce followed by the Resort 2021 campaign. The French Maison has long established a link with the art world also on the side of men's collections, but, on the basis of Kim Jones' eclectic tastes, they have focused on contemporary art.
