The campaign for Gucci x The North Face collaborative collection
The definitive consecration of gorpcore aesthetics
December 22nd, 2020
For a year in which the majority of the world's population has remained home, 2020 has seen the gorpcore aesthetic thrive – a trend that blends the luxury approach with the equipment of hiking and winter sports. And after Moncler's high-profile collaborations and Dior's ski capsule, Gucci also wanted to bring its 70s imaginary for a hike through the mountains and it did it with The North Face. In fact, the two brands have created a collaborative capsule that, in addition to clothes, includes everything that could be used for camping, such as tents and sleeping bags and it was presented with a campaign shot by Daniel Shea.
To create the collection, the designs of puffer jackets and backpacks have been recovered and adapted from the 1970s archives of The North Face while Gucci's distinct touch comes (in the case of the most strictly technical garments) from a series of new and colourful and patterns that carry the vintage aesthetic of Alessandro Michele on accessories and outerwear. The collection, therefore, boasts a real 70s mood, as one can see in the shots of the campaign, which enriches the classic gorpcore aesthetic (usually sober and lacking of decorative flair) with graphic patterns that make it look like a more lifestyle collection. Through the use of Econyl and recycled materials, the capsule is part of the sustainability objectives carried out by both brands.
