Formy Studio's new "Sonic Youth" collection
A pattern made of skulls and skeletons in the latest proposal by Domenico Formichetti
December 15th, 2020
Over the last few seasons, Domenico Formichetti with his brand Formy Studio has accustomed us to eclectic collections, the result of the most disparate inspirations, but all traceable to very specific imagery, the one that has always characterized the Italian designer and stylist's work.
The brand's new drop is no exception. The new capsule collection, in fact, entitled Sonic Youth, tries to reflect the last tumultuous months, and more generally the era of change we are experiencing. Through the recurring pattern of skulls, a symbol of our thoughts but also of our deepest fears, Formy Studio tries to rebel against the canons and rules imposed by fashion.
Within the collection, which includes crewnecks, T-shirts, sweatpants with large side pockets and snowboards - a great passion of Formichetti - the leitmotif of skulls blends with a pattern that features mysterious lines.
It's a "superimposed diagram" of the radio emissions emitted by a pulsar, a rotating neutron star. The pulsar was discovered in 1967 by a Cambridge University student and his supervisor, and it's a star capable of emitting electromagnetic radiation in a beacon-like beam, which can be picked up by radio telescopes. The lines reproduced on the pieces of Formy Studio want to symbolize individual impulses, the individual decisions that we are called to make every day.
