The new ASICS x GmbH sneakers are the craziest thing you'll see today
A silhouette inspired by a famous sandal from Pakistan
December 4th, 2020
For their fourth collaboration, ASICS and GmbH decided to work on a truly new silhouette, bringing into life a never seen before creation in the sneaker game.
The Berlin-based fashion brand GmbH, founded in 2016 by Benjamin A. Huseby and Serhat Isik, has made a name for itself thanks to a vision that blends the technology of garment making, mixed with the rich personal heritage of its founders, as children of immigrants in Europe. The GEL-CHAPPAL™ shoe is taking GmbH’s vision of juxtaposing history and modernity to its purest form. The sneaker was first unveiled during GmbH’s FW20 fashion show in Paris at the beginning of this year, and now it's ready for its global release.
The upper has a criss-cross of overlaying vegan leather straps, inspired by a Peshwari chappal, a traditional sandal from Pakistan, while the sole retains all the function and comfort of ASICS unsurpassed GEL™ technology. The result is neither a formal shoe nor a sneaker in the conventional sense. It comes in two colour-ways: burgundy and black. For the launch of the shoe, GmbH worked with Indian artist Sam Madhu on creating a digital animation with music by Indonesian duo Gabber Modus Operandi.
The ASICS x GmbH GEL-CHAPPAL™ sneaker will be available from December 10 in selected retailers worldwide at a price of €230.
