Microsoft's "grandma sweaters" to wear at Christmas lunch
Who wants pixels under their Christmas tree?
December 3rd, 2020
For the first time ever, Microsoft has put on sale a sweater in the classic Christmas style decorated with the Windows icon and called Windows Ugly Sweater. Before today, the sweater had appeared on various Microsoft influencers and fans, who had received it as a gift. The sale of the sweater takes place this year for charitable purposes: part of the proceeds will in fact be donated to the Girls Who Code association, a non-profit that organizes computer courses for young women developers.
The sweater is present in three different versions. Two white and blue inspired by MS Paint and Windows 95 respectively and a third, blue and green inspired by Windows XP. The presentation of the sweaters is part of that line of fashion trolls that has seen companies such as Sony or Lidl produce branded merch in limited editions this year and with a deliberately excessive and on-the-nose aesthetic to capitalize on its viral popularity online.
