Balenciaga has announced the opening of a new production centre in Tuscany, in Cerreto Guidi, which will be dedicated to the production of leather goods and the training of local artisans. The factory, that will be hosted in a pre-existing building with a substantial architectural recovery operation, will create about 300 new jobs that will come largely from the territory and will be opened in 2021.
The new centre promises to further boost local production and promote the activity of local tanneries. As the brand explained in a press release:
«The hired craftsmen will be trained within the new structure, in the training center that will be operational at the end of the first renovation of the building. The fashion French high fashion companies will continue to use a significant network of local suppliers for its leather goods supply chain».
Tuscany is confirmed as an internationally renowned production and craft centre: in addition to Prada's factories in Valvigna, which have been open for two years, and Gucci's ArtLab, Saint Laurent is also about to buy a series of buildings known locally as "Palazzaccio", in Scandicci, where a new industrial complex dedicated to leather goods will be built.
