5 minimal cardigans to buy this Fall
Simplicity is key
September 3rd, 2020
Few pieces in Western culture have a varied history like that of the cardigan. Born on the battlefields of the Crimean War during the 1800s, by James Brudenell, Earl of Cardigan, who first used this garment inspired by English fishermen, the cardigan became immensely popular throughout Europe, until it was praised by Coco Chanel herself who did not wear regular sweaters to avoid the risk of ruining her hairstyle. Over the years the cardigan has become the symbol of the good guys of the Ivy League, was popularized by pop culture icons such as Mr Rogers and Steve McQueen and finally consecrated, in grunge version, on the screens of MTV by Kurt Cobain who wore one, during the famous nplugged concert of '94, and which was sold at auction in 2015 for 137,500 dollars. For the upcoming fall season, and with a new wave of normcore taking hold in the fashion world, it is good that the cardigan returns to its military roots and becomes once again practical, simple and with minimal decorations.
nss magazine has selected five minimal cardigans to buy this fall to elevate your outfits.
